Used bookstores can join the American Booksellers Association for just $100 between August 1 and September 30, 2014 — half of the regular rate for used bookstores.
As part of a community of more than 2,000 fellow independents, ABA’s used bookstore members enjoy a variety of benefits including marketing and advocacy; networking and educational events, such as Winter Institute, BookExpo America, and regional trade shows; and discounts on products and services, including low credit card processing rates from Bancard Systems and reduced shipping costs through PartnerShip.

“I consider myself a bookseller, regardless of whether I am selling new or used books, and it is important to the success of my business to be engaged in the industry,” Jan Packwood, the owner of B & L Books in Altamonte Springs, Florida, said. “ABA is a fountain of information and benefits that I would otherwise not have access to. Networking, encouraging each other, and sharing successes and disappointments create a camaraderie that assures us we are not alone. I am grateful that ABA, with its resources and talent, can address our industry needs and change the complexion of competing in the world of big business as an independent.”
Used bookstores joining before September 30 will be eligible for a discounted membership term that extends until January 31, 2016, after which it will be converted to the regular used bookstore membership rate of $200 per year. Used books must equal 75 percent or more of book inventory in order for stores to qualify as used bookstores, and this offer applies only to stores that have not been ABA members within the past two years.
