ABA staff are putting the finishing touches on their costumes for the second annual Ci7 Welcome Reception and Costume Party at the 2019 Children’s Institute, to be held June 26–28 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

Below are photos of the costumes that three ABA staff members — IndieCommerce Specialist Ryan Quinn, Program Development Coordinator Jessica Stauffer, and ABC Children’s Group Manager Gen de Botton — will be wearing to the party. See if you can use these clues to guess which children's book characters they are each planning to dress as!

This is a part of IndieCommerce Specialist Ryan Quinn’s costume. Can you tell what it is?

This is from Program and Development Coordinator Jess Stauffer’s costume. Any guesses?

Gen costume
This hat is from ABC Children’s Group Manager Gen de Botton’s costume. Who do you think Gen is going as?

The party and reception will kick off the seventh annual institute on Wednesday evening, June 26. Like at last year’s costume party, attendees’ costumes will be judged by a panel of industry friends, and prizes will be awarded for character costumes across a range of categories, including but not limited to:

  • Best ensemble costume
  • Best solo costume
  • Best literary animal costume
  • Best interpretation of a character

Winners in each category will be selected by judges A.S. King, Henry Winkler, Lin Oliver, and Sergio Ruzzio. There will be a grand prize for best overall costume.

The Ci7 Welcome Reception and Costume Party will take place from 5:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 26, in the Oakmont Ballroom at the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel Pittsburgh–Green Tree.

Winners will be mailed their prizes, which were contributed by publishers, after the institute. The participating publishers are Penguin Young Readers, Random House Children's Books, ABRAMS, HarperCollins, and Scholastic.
