The October issue of The Atlantic Monthly will include two bookmark-style ads featuring Book Sense 76 recommendations from booksellers with Book Sense.

In one ad, Susan Diffenderfer of Tall Tales Book Shop in Atlanta, Georgia, recommends the number-one September/October Book Sense 76 pick, Uniform Justice: A Commissario Guido Brunetti Mystery, by Donna Leon (Atlantic Monthly Press). Diffenderfer describes Uniform Justice as "a riveting mystery set in Venice [that] captures the heart and mood of this beautiful city. Commissario Brunetti proves a likeable, intelligent detective, and his family and other characters in the book stay with you long after the book is completed." Deafening: A Novel, by Frances Itani (Atlantic Monthly Press), number five on the September/October 76, is recommended by Marian Nielsen of Orinda Books in Orinda, California, in the second Atlantic Monthly ad. "Deafening is a beautiful book," said Nielsen's recommendation. "The juxtaposition of Grania O'Neill's silent world with the unceasing thunder of the siege guns at the Somme was striking, and Itani makes the pathos of those waiting for news on the homefront as dramatic as the events in the muddy trenches of Flanders." This novel is also available as an unabridged Brilliance Audio cassette. (For a downloadable PDF of this ad, click here.)
