Minneapolis, Minnesota’s Wild Rumpus bookstore is the winner of this year’s Children’s Book Week display contest, co-sponsored by the Children’s Book Council and Every Child a Reader in partnership with the ABC Children’s Group at ABA.

As the contest winner, Wild Rumpus will have the opportunity to host a visit by an author or illustrator of one of the 2016 Children’s Choice Book Award winners or finalists.

Wild Rumpus staffers Ellen Ourada and Jesse Minutaglio, who were the artistic masterminds behind the store’s winning display, said, “With exciting new children’s books seeming to spring up magically every season, we decided to tend our own kind of garden in a front window display, including a colorful mix of titles having flora namesakes. We hope for readers to ‘dig in’ to wonderful children’s books we think are ‘not your garden variety.’”

The window display also features the picture book Hooray for Hat! (HMH Books for Young Readers) by author and illustrator Brian Won, a 2015 Children’s Choice Illustrator of the Year Award finalist and the designer of the official Children’s Book Week poster.

“We are honored to have been chosen from the many beautiful displays around the country. Every week should be Children’s Book Week!” said events coordinator Drew Sieplinga, who added that the colorful display is still attracting a lot of attention from customers.

The 97th annual celebration of Children’s Book Week was held this year from May 2 to 8. All entries for the 2016 Children’s Book Week Display Contest can be viewed here. Entries were judged based on adherence to the theme of Children’s Book Week, uniqueness, use of space, and other criteria.
