Winter Institute’s Backlist Book Swap to Be a Festive Event

For the first-ever Backlist Book Swap at the Winter Institute, booksellers and publishers are asked to bring a copy of their backlist favorite to swap with a colleague, and to share that title now via the form available here. The American Booksellers Association will use the information submitted via the form to prepare for the Saturday night, January 23, reception, to be held at Wi11’s host hotel, the Sheraton Denver Downtown Hotel. Backlist titles should be at least five years old and still be in print.

The Book Swap is part of a larger ABA initiative to provide members with new opportunities to share, showcase, and support favorite backlist titles. A second part of the initiative is the Indie Next List’s new Revisit & Rediscover feature, which highlights titles deemed by booksellers as critical inventory for indie bookstores. Revisit & Rediscover debuted on the December adult list and the Winter 2015-2016 Kids’ Indie Next List.

At Wi11’s swap, booksellers will be able to pick up copies of the Revisit & Rediscover titles to date.

Participants who take part in the festive event will also be invited to wear an “Ask Me What I’m Swapping” badge, and there will be “Recommended by [name]” bookmarks to insert in each book. Following the Book Swap, ABA will compile and share the complete list of favorite backlist titles with all Wi11 attendees, the media, and publishers.

Wi11 attendees will also be able to take home a commemorative photograph from the Backlist Book Swap photo booth, which will be set up near the ABA Registration Desk at the Sheraton throughout the day and evening on Saturday.
