In conjunction with BookExpo America, a number of organizations have come together to launch a campaign to encourage New York City residents to join a citywide book group. Earlier this month representatives from the organizations voted to select as the featured title the novel Native Speaker by Chang-Rae Lee, (Riverhead Books). [At press time, it was reported by the New York Times that one of the participating organizations, The Women’s Agenda, may be attempting to reopen the selection process.]

It is expected that a full schedule of events for the summer and fall will be announced during BookExpo America in New York City in May, which is also the Association of American Publisher’s national "Get Caught Reading" month. During the "One Book, One New York" program, New Yorkers will be encouraged to learn about and to read the book throughout the year, and related events will include author appearances, bookstore, library, community and school discussion groups, and other activities.
