Is Your Store Remarkable? Let BTW Know

The importance of breaking through all the advertising clutter and garnering loyal customers by being "remarkable" was one of the central points made by bestselling author Seth Godin (Free Prize Inside, Portfolio) at "Marketing 201: Supercharge Your Marketing Efforts" at this year's BookExpo America.

Godin stressed, "I'm not going to cross the street to go to your bookstore because it's important to you -- just because you paid for the advertising or the billboard," he said. "We need to be different."

With that in mind, Bookselling This Week is asking independent booksellers -- who know a thing or two about making their stores stand out from the crowd -- a few questions:

  • What kinds of things are you doing to make your store a remarkable and fun place to shop?
  • What are you doing to drive customer traffic across that busy street and into your store (and away from the superstores)?
  • How do you ensure that customers talk about the store to their friends after they leave the premises?
