Here’s what’s happening in the world of indie bookstores this week:

Muddy Water Bookstore [4] is now open [5] in Navasota, Texas.

MacIntosh Books and Paper [6] owner Rebecca Binkowski has opened a spin-off of her Sanibel Island bookstore [7] called “Mini Mac” in Fort Myers, Florida.

After raising $50,000, The Book Table [8] in Oak Park, Illinois, opened its new addition [9]. This expansion has increased the size of the store by 50 percent.

A Book for All Seasons [10] recently moved to a new location in Leavenworth, Washington.

Busboys and Poets [11] 5th & K location in Washington, D.C., will be moving [12] up the block. The new location will have room for Busboys’ companion bookstore and is scheduled to open in September.

Empire Books and News [13] in Ashland, Kentucky, has been acquired by Geek Inc [14].

Bards Alley [15] in Vienna, Virginia, has joined the 2,000 Libros Donation Campaign [16] with DC Books to Prisons, a project of the Washington Peace Center to send books to undocumented children who have been separated from their families at the border.

Peoria Magazine named Lit. on Fire Used Books [17] in Peoria, Illinois, the best small business of 2018. [18]

Hoodline named Quail Ridge Books [19] the best bookstore to visit [20] in Raleigh, North Carolina.

Hoodline also ranked the five best bookstores in Sacramento, California [21], with Beers Books [22] making the list.

Interabang Books [23] is the “hub” of the literary scene in Dallas, according to Texas Highways [24].

Indy Reads Books [25], Kids Ink Children’s Bookstore [26], and Wild Geese Books [27] were featured on a list of local indie bookstores [28] in Indianapolis.

MyAJC named Charis Books [29], A Capella Books [30], Little Shop of Stories [31], Eagle Eye Book Shop [32], and Avid Bookshop [33] as bookstores in Georgia that go the extra mile [34].

Bookshop West Portal [35] in San Francisco, California, celebrated the 20th anniversary of Harry Potter’s release. Festivities included a marathon community read of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone, trivia quizzes, a photo booth, and crafts.
