Here’s what’s happening in the world of indie bookstores this week:

Dotters Books [5] in Eau Claire, Wisconsin, is slated to open in mid-September [6].

Tom Nissley, owner of Phinney Books [7] in Seattle, Washington, plans to open Madison Books [8] in the city’s Madison Park neighborhood in November.

Skylark Bookshop [9] in Columbia, Missouri, held its grand opening [10] on August 25.

Caprichos Books [11] is now open in Bel Air [12], Maryland.

Fountain Books [13] in Richmond, Virginia, will be celebrating its 40th birthday [14] this year.

Auntie’s Bookstore [15] in Spokane, Washington, will celebrate 40 years in business [16] on September 8. Festivities will include discounted merchandise, giveaways, and cake.

Eight Cousins [17] in Falmouth, Massachusetts, has won the Book Publishers Representatives of New England 2018 Independent Spirit Award [18].

The Charleston City Paper [24] talked with Itinerant Literate [25] owners Christen Thompson and Julia Turner, who launched a South Carolina bookmobile in 2015 and opened a storefront earlier this summer.

Avid Bookshop [26] in Athens, Georgia, has launched a fundraising campaign [27] to help offset the costs of damages caused by severe flooding at its Five Points location on Friday, August 24. The store reopened on August 28 and tweeted, “Thank goodness for an amazing landlord and a fabulous community.”

Powell’s Books [28] in Portland, Oregon; The Ripped Bodice [29] in Los Angeles, California; and Books Are Magic [30] in New York City were included on G Adventures’ list of 10 must-see bookstores around the world [31].
