This Indies First, Publishers’ Special Terms Offer Booksellers a Range of Deals [4]

ABA member booksellers are encouraged to take advantage of the special terms [6] available from publishers for this year’s Indies First [7] on Small Business Saturday, a special shop-local event that brings together authors, readers, and publishers in support of independent bookstores on November 24.

Indies First logoAs part of the sixth annual celebration of Indies First, 37 publishers (and counting) have signed on to offer indie booksellers these terms, including traditional publishers as well as nearly a dozen university presses. The terms, which can be applied to a wide array of frontlist and backlist titles, are available during various periods between now and January 2019.

Special terms are currently listed on a downloadable Excel spreadsheet that will continue to be updated as new publisher offers are received. Booksellers can use the promotional codes listed on the spreadsheet, which is accessible from the ABA Book Buyer’s Handbook [8] and from the Indies First homepage [7] on BookWeb.org.

“With every dollar making a difference in our businesses, the Indies First terms have become vital to our bottom lines,” said Susan Hans O’Connor, owner of Penguin Bookshop [9] in Sewickley, Pennsylvania. “We often find ourselves with an open purchase order and then, right before sending, we will pop in the Indies First promo code, and it can have a significant impact on that final total. Our reps have been very good about keeping us informed and reminding us of the current terms available. Having publishers’ support in this significant way has had a very positive impact for the Penguin Bookshop.”

ABA bookstore members will need a username and password to access the spreadsheet from the ABA Book Buyer’s Handbook [8] or the Indies First homepage [7]; e-mail [email protected] [10] for login information.
