Here’s what’s happening in the world of indie bookstores this week:
Reads & Company [6] is planning to open [7] in Phoenixville, Pennsylvania, in mid-April.
Gretchen Horn is the new majority owner [8]of Malaprop’s Bookstore/Café [9] in Asheville, North Carolina, and sister store Downtown Books & News. Emöke B’Racz will remain as founder and minority owner.
blue manatee children’s bookstore [10] in Cincinnati, Ohio, announced a new ownership team for the store in a Facebook post [11] last week.
[word] Bookstore [12] in Maplewood, New Jersey, will celebrate its 10th anniversary [13] from now until February 2.
The Book Haus [14] in New Braunfels, Texas, is on the move [15]. A grand opening will take place in its new location on Saturday, January 26.
Word Up Community Book Shop [16] founder Veronica Liu’s work with Denise Chávez, owner of Casa Camino Real Bookstore [17] in Las Cruces, New Mexico, to provide books for refugees was reported on by ManhattanTimesNews.com [18].
Shakespeare & Co. [19], which has locations in New York City and Philadelphia, has welcomed HarperCollins executive Robert Zaffiris as chief development officer.

Northshire Bookstore [26] in Saratoga Springs, New York, and Manchester Center, Vermont, is accepting applications for the 2019 Open Mind scholarship [27], which honors the diversity of thought, feelings, information, and perspectives found in books. The store offers two high school seniors $1,000 each for college.
Tattered Cover Book Store [28] in Denver, Colorado, will partner with the Arvada Center and Regis University to present the Colorado Book and Arts Festival [29].
