This July, independent bookstores are dedicating displays and hiding spots for the beloved bespectacled character, Waldo.

Candlewick Press teamed up with American Booksellers Association and 300 independent bookstores across the country for Find Waldo Local 2022 [5], a month-long scavenger hunt. To participate, stores partner with local businesses in their town to hide mini Waldo cutouts for participants young and old to spot.

Here are how some indies are taking part this month:

Riverstone Books, Pittsburgh, PA: Things around the bookstore that are NOT Waldo: Andy Warhol, our gift wrap ribbon, this chicken, a stack of red-and-white books.

The Briar Patch, Bangor, ME: Guess who’s back? Waldo, of course! Waldo is hiding in 25 businesses in Downtown Bangor. Remember to snag your #FindWaldoLocal passport and help search for him this July! #WheresWaldo

Innisfree Bookshop, Meredith, NH: Waldos assemble! All our Waldos will be hiding in independent businesses across Meredith this July! Will you be able to find them all AND spot the difference? Get ready!

The Book Worm Bookstore, Powder Springs, GA: Waldo is ready to see all of our fabulous Book Worm readers today.

Water Street Bookstore, Exeter, NH: After a 2 year hiatus, #FindWaldoLocal is BACK! Come grab your passport & get sleuthing! You’ll also get a pin and a temporary tattoo, while supplies last. Don’t miss the 10th anniversary celebration of this awesome local tradition!
