MPBA Regional Book Award Winners Announced [4]

The Mountains & Plains Booksellers Association (MPBA) has announced the winners of the association's 2002 Regional Book Awards, which are presented annually "to honor outstanding books set in our region that were published in the prior year."

The 2002 Regional Book Award winners are:

Fiction -- The Miracle Life of Edgar Mint by Brady Udall (W.W. Norton & Company)
Nonfiction -- A River Running West by Donald Worster (Oxford University Press)
The Arts -- Ansel Adams at 100 by John Szarkowski and Ansel Adams (Little Brown)
Children's Chapter Book -- Daniel's Walk by Michael Spooner (Henry Holt & Company)
Children's Picture Book -- Mountain Men by Andrew Glass (Doubleday)

The judges for the Adult Fiction Award were: Chris Painter, Bud Werner Memorial Library, Steamboat Springs, Colorado; Tom Walker, the Denver Post, Denver; and Brandon Griggs, Salt Lake Tribune, Salt Lake City. The judges of the Adult Nonfiction and the Arts Awards were: Jean Cheney, Utah Humanities Council, Salt Lake City; Jon Bowman, New Mexico Magazine, Santa Fe, New Mexico; and Dennis Lythgoe, the Deseret News, Salt Lake City. The judges for the Children's Picture and Chapter Books Awards were: Ann Cannon, Westminster College, Salt Lake City; Debra Evans, Sam Weller's Books, Salt Lake City; and Carolyn Harrington, Great Horned Owl Books, Louisville, Colorado.

The awards will be presented at a reception in Denver on September 20, 2002. Previous winners of the MPBA Regional Book Award include Rick Bass, Stephen Ambrose, Wallace Stegner, William Least Heat-Moon, Terry Tempest Williams, Sandra Cisneros, Barbara Kingsolver, Win Blevins, Joe Starita, Kent Haruf, Mark Spragg, and Claire Davis.
