Important News About The History Channel Promotions [4]

Here is some important news, and a reminder, about various Book Sense marketing initiatives with The History Channel. Questions about any of these promotions should be addressed to Associate Director of Book Sense Marketing Meg Smith at [email protected] [5].

  • First, the reminder: Booksellers can still participate in the Hardcover History Display Contest, for a chance to win a trip for two to Las Vegas, including airfare and hotel. The deadline for the contest is June 15. To be eligible to win, booksellers must submit photos, digital or print, of their Hardcover History display for April or May. The featured April in-store title is The Holy Grail, by Richard Barber (Harvard University Press), which ties into the companion show, Investigating History, a new series premiering on The History Channel in April. (For more about the display contest, click here [6].)
  • Bookmarks and a mini-poster for the May Hardcover History promotion are included in the April White Box mailing to participating stores. These feature The History Channel program Quest for King Arthur, airing June 20 on The History Channel, and the tie-in title from Wiley, The Knight, by Alan Baker.
  • Book Sense, The History Channel, and Bulfinch Press are co-sponsoring a special promotion to mark the 60th anniversary of D-Day on June 6. It's called "Day of Valor," and a kit to enable the bookstore to become a community gathering place to commemorate the anniversary will be on its way to stores next week. The kit contains a Voices of Valor CD; event counter easel; bookmarks; an American flag; veteran resource guide; suggested event themes, and sample press release for your local media. The History Channel and Bulfinch Press, publishers of Voices of Valor, are generously supporting this event, which was created for Book Sense stores only. The suggested event date is during the week of May 22 to May 29 to coincide with The History Channel's airing of week-long programming beginning on May 29. Included will be the premieres of 10 Days to D-Day, and D-Day: The Lost Evidence.
  • Also to honor the day, Book Sense has created a Book Sense D-Day (and WWII specific) History Top Ten list and bookmarks, which will be include in the May White Box mailing. This is the third time Book Sense has compiled a list in association with The History Channel, and it follows the Autumn 2003 Top Ten JFK Picks, which debuted last November.
