World Book Night Announces Top Indie Giver Locations [4]

World Book Night U.S. Executive Director Carl Lennertz announced today that the independent bookstore (single location) with the most givers for World Book Night 2014 [5]is Books ‘n’ More in Wilmington, Ohio, which mounts a very active social media campaign every year.

Other top giver stores include Avid Bookshop in Athens, Georgia; Women & Children First in Chicago; Illinois; Powell’s Books in Portland, Oregon; Quail Ridge Books & Music in Raleigh, North Carolina; Watchung Booksellers in Montclair, New Jersey; BookPeople in Austin, Texas; Watermark Books & Cafe in Wichita, Kansas; Anderson’s Bookshops in Naperville and Downers Grove, Illinois, Antigone Books in Tucson, Arizona; Parnassus Books in Nashville, Tennessee; Politics & Prose in Washington, D.C.; Left Bank Books in St. Louis, Missouri; Boswell Book Company in Milwaukee, Wisconsin; Vroman’s Bookstore in Pasadena, California; Skylight Books in Los Angeles, California; Nicola’s Books in Ann Arbor, Michigan; the river’s end bookstore in Oswego, New York; Village Books in Bellingham, Washington; Bookbug in Kalamazoo, Michigan; Grassroots Books in Reno, Nevada; Port Book and News in Port Angeles, Washington; Rakestraw Books in Danville, California; UConn Co-op in Storrs, Connecticut; Bookshop Santa Cruz in Santa Cruz, California; and Children’s Book World in Los Angeles, California.

Top multi-location indies with great turnout include Denver’s Tattered Cover Book Store; Joseph-Beth Booksellers, with locations in Kentucky and Ohio; Michigan’s Schuler Books & Music; and California’s Books Inc., Pegasus Books, and Copperfield’s Books.

In addition to working with individual givers, indie booksellers have been working with groups on World Book Night 2014, said Lennertz, from the Prison Book Project and Porter Square Books in Cambridge, Massachusetts, to 50 Rotary Club members and That Bookstore in Blytheville, Arkansas.

Stores will receive their giver numbers this week via e-mail so they can plan for their giver receptions to be held the week of April 14. WBN giver boxes will arrive the week of April 7 and should be checked and stored while giver materials are printed and prepared.
