Banned Books Week Announces Social Media Plans [5]
- By Chris Finan [6]
There will be an explosion of activity on social media when Banned Books Week [7] (September 27 – October 3) launches this Sunday. This year’s event features YA books that have been challenged or banned. To help get the ball rolling, the American Booksellers for Free Expression [8](ABFE) and the event’s other sponsors have announced several ways in which everyone can use the Internet to promote the freedom to read:
-
Participate in the Virtual Read-out [9].
-
Post a selfie with your favorite banned Young Adult book and tell the world what it means to you! Use the hashtags #ireadbannedbooks and #YAfiction. Banned Books Week’s sponsors will be sharing some of the more unique responses throughout the week.
-
Share the Banned Books Week Frequently Banned or Challenged Slideshow [10].
-
Display a Banned Books Week banner [11] on Facebook and Twitter.
-
Upload the Banned Books Week Twibbon [12].
-
Use the Banned Books Week hashtags: #bannedbooksweek #bannedbooks #ireadbannedbooks #censored #freedomtoread #youngadult #bannedYA #YAfiction.
- Enter Simon & Schuster’s Banned Books Week contest to win a poster [13].
