Retail Sales at Bookstores Up in November [3]

Retail sales at bookstores were up by 1.5 percent in November 2016 compared to November 2015, according to preliminary figures recently released by the Bureau of the Census.
November 2016 bookstore sales are estimated at $805 million, compared to sales of $793 million for the same period last year.
For the first 11 months of 2016, retail sales at bookstores were up 3.4 percent, reaching $10,576 million compared to $10,229 million for the same period last year.
Total retail and food service sales in November 2016 are estimated at $468.6 billion, compared to $444.5 billion in November 2015, an increase of 5.4 percent.

A bookstore is defined as any retail establishment with sales comprised of more than 50 percent new books and periodicals, and estimates include sales of all products in these stores.
