Children and teens across the country are voting to choose the winners of the10th annual Children’s & Teen Choice Book Awards [7], sponsored by the nonprofit literacy organization Every Child a Reader [8]. Voting, which began on March 3 at everychildareader.net/vote [9] and in schools, bookstores, and libraries around the country, ends May 7.

The winners will be chosen from seven finalists [10] in each of the three Children’s Choice Book Awards categories — K–2nd grades, 3rd–4th grades, and 5th–6th grades — and the Teen Choice Book Award category.

The children’s finalists were chosen in pre-voting by 36,000 children from different regions of the U.S., with supervision by the International Literacy Association. Teens nominated their favorite books of the year at TeenReads.com [11], and their top picks are the Teen Choice Book Award finalists.

The winners will be announced on May 31 at a special ceremony at BookExpo, featuring the National Ambassador for Young People’s Literature, Gene Luen Yang.

[12]To help booksellers promote voting, Every Child a Reader and the Children’s Book Council [13] offer an array of resources [14], including website banners, logos, sample social media posts, printable ballots, “I voted” stickers, e-mail signatures, and more. Coming soon are voting activities and an event kit.

For the first time, voting for the awards will end on the last day of Children’s Book Week [12], which runs May 1–7.

Stores that signed up to participate and host activities for Children’s Book Week by March 3 will be part of the event’s national publicity campaign and will receive exclusive materials designed by children’s book illustrators, including Book Week posters with activities, featuring original art by Christian Robinson.

Children’s Book Week will also feature a display contest and a book donation campaign.
