ABA Institutes App Now Features 2017 Children’s Institute [4]

Registrants for the 2017 ABC Children’s Institute [6], which kicks off on Wednesday, April 5, in Portland, Oregon, can now access the Children’s Institute event listing in the ABA Institutes app [7].

Children's Institute app homepage [7]

Through the app, which is available for iPhone, iPad, iPod, or Android devices, users can view the Children’s Institute schedule along with full session descriptions; create customized agendas by adding individual events to their personal schedule; message fellow attendees; view keynote and featured speakers as well as the list of attending authors; and explore a map of the hotel with session locations as well as a city map of Portland. The “Using this App” guide on the event homepage provides details about how to take advantage of the app’s many features.

The ABA Institutes app was used for this year’s Winter Institute in Minneapolis as well as last year’s Children’s Institute in Orlando. Booksellers who previously downloaded the app to use at these institutes can return to the app’s homepage by navigating to the menu icon in the upper left corner, then to the gear or triangle icon in the upper right corner, and selecting “Back to All Events” to find the listing for the 2017 Children’s Institute. Booksellers will also need to complete a new login process for the 2017 Children’s Institute event and supply their profile with information. To log in, select the menu icon in the upper left corner, then the gear or triangle icon in the upper right.

Booksellers who have not previously used the ABA Institutes app can download it here [8].

For the 2017 Children’s Institute, the app will also serve as the venue for attendees to learn about late-breaking news or schedule changes. ABA suggests users allow for push notifications to get real-time alerts about such changes, which will also be listed within the app.

Booksellers are also encouraged to use the app to fill out evaluations after education sessions, plenaries, and featured talks. To provide feedback, tap the event’s name, scroll to the bottom, and select “Session Evaluation” under the “Surveys” header.

The Children’s Institute schedule is available to all app users regardless of whether they are logged in, as is the ability to select sessions and events to add to their own institute schedule. However, logging in allows users to save their schedule and view and edit it on multiple devices.

Mobile device users can download the ABA Institutes app by clicking this link [7], where they will be directed to the App Store or Google Play, depending on their device. The minimum operating system requirement for using the app on Apple devices is iOS 9 or greater; for Android devices, 4.5 or greater. App content is also visible in a web version here [9]; the web version is compatible with Chrome, Firefox, Safari, and versions 9, 10, and 11 of Internet Explorer.

Questions about the app can be addressed to Director of ABA Technology Greg Galloway [10].
