Tickets on Sale for Silent Art Auction at BookExpo [4]

Featuring the Children’s and Teen Choice Book Awards

Tickets went on sale today [6], April 12, for the popular Silent Art Auction at BookExpo [7]. For the first time, this year’s event will feature the announcement of the winners of the Children’s and Teen Choice Book Awards [8].

[9]The 2017 Silent Art Auction, sponsored by the ABC Children’s Group at ABA [9] and the Children’s Book Council [10] (CBC), will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, May 31, at New York City’s Javits Center. Proceeds from the event will benefit American Booksellers for Free Expression [11] (ABFE) and Every Child a Reader [12].

National Ambassador for Young People’s Literature Gene Luen Yang will chair the event and announce the winners of the Children’s and Teen Choice Book Awards, as chosen by young readers in voting that ends May 7.

[10]This year’s Silent Art Auction program will also celebrate the 75th anniversary of Random House’s Little Golden Books imprint, which began in 1942. The auction will feature a special selection of works celebrating the Little Golden Books legacy as part of a year-long marketing and publicity campaign that began in February.

Tickets for the auction are priced at $110 each; however, ABA member booksellers who are logged in to BookWeb.org will automatically receive a 90 percent discount. Discounts are also available to librarians and friends of ABFE and the CBC with the use of special discount codes. Order tickets now. [6]

Publishers and illustrators who are interested in donating art should contact Susannah Richards [13], professor and children’s literature advocate. The deadline for submissions is May 1.
