A Roundup of Publisher Support Programs for New Indie Bookstores [4]

Booksellers can visit the American Booksellers Association’s Book Buyer’s Handbook [5] online to find information about publisher programs aimed at supporting new bookstores opening in the independent channel.

Four publishers currently offer support program details in the Handbook:

  • Hachette Book Group — 2017 New Store Opening Offer
  • HarperCollins — New Bookstore Development Program
  • Houghton Mifflin Harcourt — New Store Opening Offer
  • Macmillan — New U.S. Retail Book Store Opening Policy

Links to these publishers’ policies are listed on the “Publisher Offers for New Stores” page in the Book Buyer’s Handbook [5] (a username and password are required to access the Handbook; booksellers who need login information can e-mail [email protected] [6]).

As the Book Buyer’s Handbook is a valued resource for indie booksellers, publishers are encouraged to share details about new store support programs for inclusion by contacting Senior Program Officer Joy Dallanegra-Sanger [7].
