ABA Learning on Demand: IndieCommerce’s Wish List/Gift Registry Feature [4]

The “Multiple Wish List/Gift Registry” webinar, presented by Chanthee Keokhaw and Geetha Nathan of the American Booksellers Association’s IndieCommerce [6] team on Thursday, March 7, featured a live demonstration of how booksellers and customers alike can use the new wish list feature on IndieCommerce websites. Booksellers can view the full demonstration on BookWeb.org [7].

There are many different possible uses for the wish list feature. Wish lists can:

  • Provide customers with a way to keep track of books they’d like to read or purchase for themselves and others
  • Serve as an easily-accessible gift registry for holidays, weddings, birthdays, baby showers, and other events
  • Be used by teachers to keep lists of books they’d like to buy for individual classes or grades
  • Be used by librarians to keep track of books they want or need

The multiple wish list/gift registry feature is not available by default, and is only available for IndieCommerce websites. IndieLite websites have a basic wish list feature of one list per customer. Booksellers can e-mail [email protected] [8] to request the feature be enabled, or they can make their request directly through their IndieCommerce website from the “Store Features” page.

Once enabled, the wish list option will place an “add to wish list” button on eligible product pages. Wherever there is an “add to cart” button, an “add to wish list” button can be placed. Site administrators can choose which products the button is featured on, including event tickets, gift cards, books, and toys.

Customers must be logged in to use the feature. Wish lists are downloadable, and IndieCommerce websites will also generate a shareable link for each wish list. Customers can share the generated link or directly e-mail their wish list to others through the list itself. If they decide they’d like to buy an item they wished for, they can purchase it directly through the list.

Booksellers who are looking for more information can e-mail the IndieCommerce team at [email protected] [8] and view the in-depth demonstration here [7]. Booksellers can also reference this informational guide on the wish list feature [9].
