Don’t Miss Out on These Children’s Bookselling Events at BookExpo [5]

BookExpo [7] attendees are encouraged to hurry up and get their tickets for two children’s bookselling events from The ABC Children’s Group at ABA: the 2019 Children’s Book Art Silent Auction and the ABC/CBC Speed Dating Tea.

BookExpo logoBookExpo takes place May 29–31 at the Javits Convention Center in New York City. Tickets are currently available [8] for the Children’s Book Art Silent Auction [9], on Wednesday, May 29, where authors, artists, publishers, and booksellers will bid on original works of art from published or forthcoming books by a variety of children’s book illustrators to raise money for the American Booksellers for Free Expression [10] (ABFE), part of the American Booksellers Association’s Advocacy division, and Every Child a Reader [11], the literacy charity division of the Children’s Book Council (CBC).

The 2019 auction, which coincides with the 100th anniversary of Children’s Book Week [12],will also pay tribute to the late children’s book publisher Ursula Nordstrom [13]. The auction will take place on Wednesday, May 29, from 5:00 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. in the South Concourse of the Javits Center. ABC Children’s Group [14] members will have free access to the event with a special promotional code. Other attendees can purchase their tickets for the auction on BookWeb.org [8], but volunteers will also take payment on-site. ABC Group members can e-mail Gen de Botton [15] for the promotional access code to attend the event for free.

Besides the auction, booksellers have until Wednesday, May 22, to register and purchase tickets for the ABC/CBC Speed Dating Tea [16], taking place on Friday, May 31, from 1:00 p.m. – 2:00 p.m. in Room 1E07/08/09 at the Javits Center. At the event, ABC Group members and friends of the CBC will enjoy a lively tea with more than a dozen children’s book authors as they pitch their new projects. Booksellers can register and buy their ticket for the Tea here. [17]

As a reminder, booksellers at ABA member stores can receive a free badge to BookExpo by providing their ABA member number during the BookExpo registration process [18]; booksellers can e-mail [email protected] [19] for their member number. Learn more about ABA programming at BookExpo here [20].
