Independent Bookstore Day with three balloons tied to a stack of four booksBookseller Julie Jarema is the winner of the Independent Bookstore Day [7] (IBD) logo contest, which invited design submissions throughout the month of October.

Jarema’s logo, which will launch with the 2021 event, was selected from a pool of submissions; among the judges were members of the ABA Board of Directors, the Booksellers Advisory Council, the ABC Children’s Group at ABA, and the ABA Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee. As the winner of the logo design contest, Jarema will receive $500.

Jarema is an illustrator, writer, and bookseller at Avid Bookshop [8] in Athens, Georgia. Over the years, she has celebrated Independent Bookstore Day by hiding maps of bookstores around town for readers to find and painting bookworm dog portraits. When she’s not scaling bookshelves, she is sending snail mail or daydreaming about her next adventure. See more of her work at www.juliejarema.com [9] or follow her on Instagram [10] and Twitter [11].
