Liza Fixx has owned Breakwater Books for almost three years, purchasing it from Maureen Corcoran, who owner it for 10 years, believing that it was essential for Guilford to continue to have a literary hub for years to come. For almost five decades and three owners, Breakwater Books has met the challenges of big box stores, the Internet, Amazon, and e-readers. Through it all, the store has not only adapted but flourished through its unique blend of high-tech and high-touch, never wavering from its focus on books and a love of the community.

Through physical renovations, marketing improvements, inventory strengthening and getting to know customers as new friends, Liza has enjoyed a richly satisfying experience. Now – more than anything – she wants this store that has given her so much to have a new chapter with loving leadership. The store needs someone who is ready to meet the challenges and opportunities of the evolving book industry while preserving the heart and soul of this community treasure. The staff has years of experience, and the community couldn’t be more supportive. It is the most entertaining, enlightening and sociable retail atmosphere for which you could hope.

Applying a variety of financial models from a review of owner-supplied tax returns, inventory reports and marketing materials, a professional business valuation has determined that Breakwater Books is worth $61,500. This sustainable, well-respected bookstore is a turnkey operation that fully employs all of the disciplines needed to run a profitable growing and satisfying enterprise.

A new owner with an appreciation for community and the entrepreneurial spirit needed to run a small business could inherit a bookstore with a long and rich history in Guilford that is prestigious, independent, and beloved.

Interested parties will be asked to sign and return a confidentiality agreement and will then be provided with a comprehensive business review, along with any supporting documentation requested.
