Binc logoThe Book Industry Charitable (Binc) Foundation kicked off its annual year-end campaign on November 27 — Giving Tuesday — with the goal of reaching $20,000 in donations, which will help at least 10 booksellers and their families.

The need for assistance is high: Binc is currently receiving calls from booksellers impacted by the wildfires in California and continues to assist booksellers recovering from the recent hurricanes in North Carolina, South Carolina, Hawaii, and Florida. All donations will go to work immediately to help booksellers and their families.

This year, the foundation’s board is offering a donation match up to $5,000, which will double the impact of donations.

“Needs within the bookselling community continue to grow each year,” said Board President Lori Tucker-Sullivan. “Members of the Binc board see these needs first-hand through the requests for assistance that we receive. As board members, we are committed to doing as much as possible to support the wonderful, caring community that we serve. Matching the generous donations provided to Binc from our many supporters assures that we can help many more booksellers in need.”

“At Binc, we’re constantly aware of two facts: One is that the people who make our industry thrive — the booksellers themselves — often live on razor-thin margins and a small crisis can derail their lives. That’s why we give,” said Board Vice President Matthew Gildea. “We also see the generosity of the bookselling community, how booksellers themselves give and give and give. Being a part of that generosity connects me to the necessary, vibrant conversation taking place between booksellers and readers.”

“We know people have a wide variety of wonderful charities vying for their support on #GivingTuesday,” said Binc Executive Director Pamela French. “We are incredibly grateful to our supporters who are choosing to strengthen the bookselling community.”
