Soldato Seeks Assistant Store Manager – Part-Time or Full-Time

Soldato, a new independent bookstore in Rutherford, NJ, is looking for a bookseller and assistant store manager who would complete a variety of tasks. He or she would oversee the store's most vital expressions, have input/feedback on the stock to buy, attending industry events, and collaborate to ensure that the store cultivates and hosts fresh and exciting events. He or she’s primary interests should be in art, design, philosophy, architecture, and a plethora of independent publications. Ultimately this position’s central purpose is to create an anchoring sense of place for the residents of Rutherford and the surrounding areas. Soldato’s customers and sense of community are the number one priority. Job responsibilities would include but not be limited to:

  1. Using our software to create a database of inventory for the purposes of searching, locating, and ordering books.
  2. Engaging with customers and making well-informed book recommendations.
  3. Providing input regarding incoming used and new materials including placement and pricing.  Performing data entry of these materials into our inventory with extreme accuracy.
  4. We are looking for candidates to be present on a full-time or part-time basis.  The hours of operation are from Wednesday through Saturday from 11:00am-2:00pm and 4:00pm-9:00pm.
  5. Completing transactions accurately and quickly.
  6. General upkeep and maintenance of the bookstore and record shop website.
  7. Responsible for operating Point of Sale system.
  8. Ensuring exceptional customer service and customer experience.
  9. Responsible for providing input and feedback regarding merchandise purchasing, curating, organization and display.
  10. Assisting with organizing store activities and events including but not limited to Saint George’s Day on April 23rd each year
  11. Developing and implementing store standard operating procedures.
  12. Documenting weekly, monthly and annual store budgets and spending.
  13. Ensuring store is kept clean and organized at all times.
  14. Assist in any area of the store as needed.
  15. Resolve customer and personnel issues as needed along with the assistance of Soldato ownership/management
  16. Attend regional bookstore meetings and industry events as needed to ensure Soldato’s innovation and growth
