Winter Institute 10th Anniversary Commemorative Design Contest Specs, Rules and Prizes

Thematically, please consider that this is Winter Institute’s 10th anniversary. Make the design edgy, funny, colorful, literary, energetic, or whatever you think best represents ABA’s Winter Institute.

Design Specs: (questions? email [email protected])

  • High-resolution (300 dots per inch) or vector images
  • All fonts outlined (if using a vector format)
  • CMYK color space (if you're not familiar with specifying the color space, submit your file as-is and we will adjust as necessary)
  • PDF, EPS, TIF, or low-compression JPG file formats
  • File size maximum 5MB
  • Design must be at least 4"x4" and at most 12"x12"

Required content: (logos available for download at http://www.bookweb.org/designs-and-downloads)

  • Must be original – no stock art      
  • “ABA” or “American Booksellers Association” – text or logo                  
  • Reference to Winter Institute, e.g., Wi10, WiX, Winter Institute, etc. 
  • “Asheville” and/or “2015”

Optional content:

  • 10th anniversary

Avoid:

  • Trade names of other businesses
  • Negativity
  • Things you don’t own or have the rights to grant

Terms and Conditions:

  1. Open only to all staff/freelancers/owners of ABA member bookstores in good standing. Limit three designs per person. “You” and “Your” refers to the person completing the design submission; “ABA” means the American Booksellers Association; and “Design” means the work(s) submitted hereunder.
  2. Completing the submission form and entering the contest constitutes Your warranty and representation that the Design is Your original work; that excluding ABA trademarks and logos downloaded from BookWeb.org, You have all legal rights to the Design and its elements, including, without limitation, copyrights, patents, design rights, trademarks, etc.; and that You are over fourteen (14) years of age.
  3. You acknowledge and agree that once submitted to the contest the Design becomes the property of ABA and that ABA may use the Design, in whole or in part, for any purpose, including in connection with t-shirts and other merchandise. You grant ABA the right to use Your name and likeness for all publicity in connection therewith.  You agree and undertake not to resell or offer to resell the Design to anyone.
  4. ABA reserves the right to accept or reject the design application of anyone at its sole discretion. ABA has the discretion to not award a prize for the contest, and all decisions of ABA are final. ABA agrees that it will use the Design for Winter Institute t-shirts and other merchandise to be sold by a third-party online vendor such as Red Bubble, and that ABA will receive no compensation for their sale.
  5. You agree to indemnify and hold ABA, its officers, agents, partners, and employees, harmless from any claim or demand, including reasonable attorney’s fees, made by any third party due to, or arising out of, the Design. All disputes arising out of or related to this agreement shall be subject to the laws of the State of New York.
