Children’s Book Week Display Contest Kicks Off April 24 [4]
- By Sydney Jarrard [5]
[6]In honor of Children’s Book Week [6], May 1–7, the Children’s Book Council [7] and Every Child a Reader [8] are inviting independent bookstores, libraries, and schools to participate in this year’s One World, Many Stories display contest [9].
Fifty winners will be chosen — one per state — and each will win a set of the 28 books that made it to the finals of the Children’s & Teen Choice Book Awards [10].
Displays must be up for a week between April 24 and May 7. Winners will be chosen based on the prominent use of this year’s Children’s Book Week poster [11], additional art reflecting this year’s theme, and inclusion of Children’s and Teen Choice Book Award finalists.
To enter the contest, stores must:
- Post photos on social media; tag Every Child a Reader on Facebook [12], Twitter [13], or Instagram [14]; and use the hashtag #CBW17.
- Fill out the display contest entry form [15], including all store information and links to the online postings.
- Share one to three display photos via Dropbox [16] for inclusion in an online album, as well as a document with photo credits and captions.
Each winning bookstore will receive a full set of the 28 Children’s & Teen Choice Book Award finalists to be donated to a local charity; school and library winners will receive a set of books to give to their own students or patrons in need.
Voting for the Children’s & Teen Choice Book Awards [17] ends on Sunday, May 7. National Ambassador for Young People’s Literature Gene Luen Yang will announce the winners at the 2017 Silent Art Auction [18], which benefits American Booksellers for Free Expression (ABFE) and Every Child a Reader, on May 31 at BookExpo.
Questions about the display contest can be addressed to Children’s Book Council Programming and Strategic Partnerships Director Shaina Birkhead [19].
