Here’s what’s happening in the world of indie bookstores this week:

Bronx River Books [5] is planning to open in Scarsdale [6], New York, later this summer.

Run for Cover Books & Cafe [7] is scheduled to open in San Diego, California, later this year.

In Chicago, Bookie’s [8] relocation last summer has been a boon to business [9], and the store is planning to expand to a second location in the Homewood suburb later this month.

Prologue Bookshop [10] will hold its first pop-up shop in Columbus, Ohio, on August 19.

McNally Jackson [11] will be partnering with Hudson Group to open a location in the new Terminal B in LaGuardia Airport.

Johns Creek Books & Gifts [12] opened in Johns Creek, Georgia, on July 26.

House of Books and Games [13], a new bookstore in Windsor, Connecticut, celebrated its grand opening on August 4 [14].

In Oakmont, Pennsylvania, Mystery Lovers Bookshop [15] has has been purchased by Tara Goldberg-DeLeo and Kristy Bodnar [16].

Learned Owl Book Shop [17] in Hudson, Ohio, will celebrate 50 years of business on September 23.

Books & Books [18] in Coral Gables, Florida, hosted a celebration and screening in honor of owner Mitchell Kaplan’s latest film, The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society [19], adapted from the novel by the same name by Annie Barrows and Mary Ann Shafer. Barrows was in attendance.

As of September 1, Byrd’s Books [20] in Bethel, Connecticut, will have a new street address, 178 Greenwood Ave., rather than its current address of 126 Greenwood Ave.

The Orlando Sentinel named five Central Florida bookstores [21] for National Book Lovers Day.  Writer’s Block Bookstore [22] in Winter Park, Florida, made the list.

The Know Outdoors listed Explore Booksellers [23] in Aspen, MacDonald Book Shop [24] in Estes Park, and Tattered Cover [25] in Denver as three pit-stops on a literary tour of Colorado [26].

Books Are Magic [27] and McNally Jackson [11] were included on a list of the seven best bookstores in Brooklyn [28].

Book Passage [29], Parnassus Books [30], and Porter Square Books [31] were included in an article about good things happening in bookstores [32].

This November, Back of Beyond Books [33], in partnership with Torrey House Press [34], will publish Desert Cabal: A New Season in the Wilderness [35] by Amy Irvine. The store has launched a Kickstarter [36] fundraiser to support the publication program.
