Here’s what’s happening in the world of indie bookstores this week:
Jenna Kirchner has opened Element of Fun Books & Toys [6] in Rochester, New York.
Bogan Books [7] in Fort Kent, Maine, is scheduled to open on September 12 [7].
Bronx River Books [8] is slated to hold its soft opening [9] in Scarsdale, New York, in September. A formal grand opening is scheduled for this October.
Macdonald Book Shop [10] will celebrate 90 years in business in Estes Park, Colorado, on Thursday, September 13.
Abraham Lincoln Bookshop [11] in Chicago, Illinois, will celebrate its 85th birthday this year.
Judith Kissner of Cambridge, Minnesota’s Scout and Morgan Books [12] has won the first annual Midwest Independent Booksellers Association Bookseller of the Year Award [13].
The Ivy Bookshop [14] and Greedy Reads [15] were named in a Baltimore Sun [16] article about thriving indie bookstores in Baltimore, Maryland.
The Appalachian [17] featured Foggy Pine Books [18] in Boone, North Carolina, for its selection of local books, community engagement, and resident cats.
Her Bookshop [19] in Nashville, Tennessee, has changed its name to The Bookshop. Owner Joelle Herr explained on Facebook [20] that the inclusion of “Her,” a play on her last name, created confusion among customers about the audience for the store.
