Children’s Institute Scholarship Deadline January 31 [3]

Tuesday, January 31, is the last day for booksellers to apply for publisher-sponsored scholarships [5] to the American Booksellers Association’s fifth ABC Children’s Institute (Ci5) [6]. The event, which is open to booksellers at all ABA member stores, will be held from April 5–7, 2017, at the Red Lion Hotel on the River – Jantzen Beach in Portland, Oregon.

Scholarships are open to booksellers from ABA member stores that did not have a Children’s Institute scholarship winner in 2015 or 2016. The electronic application form on BookWeb [5] will remain open until midnight ET on January 31. Scholarships will cover the $99 conference fee, the cost of airfare or ground transportation up to $400, and two hotel nights plus tax.

Registration for the Children’s Institute [7] opened on January 11 and is limited to five booksellers per ABA member business.

To secure a room at the Red Lion Hotel at the event rate of $129 plus tax, booksellers should make their reservations [8] as soon as possible. The rate is available until Monday, March 13, or until the block is sold out, whichever comes first. The rate is valid on stays from April 2 through April 10, subject to availability. When booking hotel and travel accommodations, booksellers should keep in mind that the Children’s Institute opening reception at Powell’s City of Books will begin at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 5, and at 5:00 p.m. for Children’s Institute scholarship winners. In addition, bookstore tours will be offered on April 5; registration for the bookstore tours will open sometime in February.
