Dear Booksellers,

Here’s our end of the week roundup:

What to Do

Owners, managers, and buyers: check your inbox for an email sent yesterday, March 11, about a special Oprah's Book Club offer. The email subject is “Sign Up Now for Opportunity with Oprah’s Book Club.” The announcement includes an important deadline of Monday, March 15, at 3:00 pm ET (12:00 pm PT) to return your signed NDAs.

Renew your store’s dues! Fill out the form now to ensure you don’t lose ABA benefits. The deadline is Monday, March 15. Questions? Email the membership team.

Mark your calendar for the March 16 Coffee Break, which will be held from 3:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. ET on Zoom. Join a call with your bookselling colleagues from across the country to talk about any bookselling-related topics. Watch your email for an invite a few hours before the event.

Register now to join POS User Groups on Wednesday, March 24, from 1:00 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. ET. Connect with representatives from several POS vendors for an informal conversation, whether you are looking to speak with your store’s vendor or talk with other vendors to learn more about their services. This is also a great opportunity to compare best practices with other stores who use the same POS system.

Look ahead to the remainder of March — visit ABA’s at-a-glance events calendar to see what’s on tap for the upcoming weeks.

What to Know

Duende District bookstore and author/activist R.O. Kwon are collaborating on the “For Love & Love & Love” fundraiser to support the Asian community, raise awareness about the anti-Asian and Pacific Islander racism happening, and feature BIPOC-owned small businesses across the country. All funds raised will go to Kwon’s selected activist organization, the Asian Pacific Environmental Network. The auction ends March 14.

The Education Resources page on BookWeb is the place to go to see recordings of sessions from Winter Institute, ABA Coffee Breaks, Marketing & Technology Meetups, and other education. Filter by the topics at the top of the page, or sort by event.

ABA’s Advocacy team has created a list of federal COVID relief options available for small businesses, along with accompanying deadlines. (Note: This list is not yet updated to reflect changes made in the relief bill signed into law yesterday. Look for an updated list next week.)

The IndieCommerce team is reminding stores about the fun “Ask a Bookseller” feature, which creates an opportunity for an online customer to communicate with a bookseller. When a customer clicks on the “Ask a Bookseller” button, it creates a webform on your site where they can ask your staff questions about specific titles.

ABA is here for all of you. Please reach out if there is anything we can help with. Members can contact me directly or email the Membership, Advocacy, or IndieCommerce teams.

Best,
Allison
