WHAT TO DO

Sign up for this week’s events (all times Eastern):

  • Today, July 6, at 3:00 p.m.: ShopTalk
  • July 7 at 7:00 p.m.: BIPOC Meetup/Quarterly Forum
  • July 8 at 1:00 p.m.: Social Media Series: All About Video

Register for Children’s Institute so you can celebrate the event’s August 30 opening in Kumospace, a fun and new way to engage with friends in a virtual space (it looks a little like The Legend of Zelda!).

As a bonus, inspired by Bettie’s Pages in Lowell, Michagan’s take on Dutch Bingo, attendees are encouraged to wear a T-shirt from another bookstore — we may not be able to be together in person, but that doesn't mean we can't show our love for each other! Learn more about Kumospace in Ci9’s FAQ section.

WHAT TO KNOW

Eligible bookstores should remember to take advantage of the Employee Retention Tax Credit (worth up to $5,000 per employee for 2020 and $28,000 per employee for 2021). The tax credit can be claimed on quarterly tax filings. Learn more here.

Maryland bookstores: Governor Hogan announced Maryland's new Project Restore program, which will offer rental grants and sales tax relief rebates for qualifying businesses that re-occupy or invest in vacant commercial and retail space. Qualifying businesses must begin new or expanded operations in a space that has not generated sales tax receipts for the last six months.
