Independent Bookstore Day Tools Available to Help Booksellers Plan Celebrations [3]
- By Sydney Jarrard [4]
[5]Booksellers will celebrate Independent Bookstore Day [5] (IBD) on April 30, and to help booksellers plan displays, special events, and publicity leading up to the event, Independent Bookstore Day organizers have made available:
- A searchable map of bookstores [6] participating in IBD by selling the special, literary-themed merchandise created for the event
- A gallery of images of the IBD merchandise [7] for use on signs, social media, and store websites
- A slideshow of tips and ideas for making IBD a success, [8] presented at the Independent Bookstore Day session at Winter Institute 11
- Customizable press release templates, which will be available on the IBD website [9] on Friday, March 4
Independent Bookstore Day tote bags and T-shirts are still available to booksellers looking to promote the event. Bags wholesale for $7 each and must be ordered in increments of 10. T-shirts are $10 and can be ordered individually for staff or in bulk for resale. All IBD merchandise is nonreturnable; orders can be placed by contacting Ann Seaton [10].
Booksellers looking to host story time activities and giveaways for kids can request a Duck & Goose party pack with materials based on author and illustrator Tad Hills’ picture book series. The kit is free to Independent Bookstore Day participants; booksellers can contact their Random House Children’s sales rep or e-mail [email protected] [11] to learn more.
Several publishers are offering specials on backlist and companion titles by Independent Bookstore Day authors. Booksellers can review the IBD catalog [12] for suggestions and sign up for the Independent Bookstore Day newsletter [13] to learn more about publisher promotions.
As events come together, booksellers are asked to share their party plans [14] with Independent Bookstore Day. Questions can be directed to IBD Program Director Samantha Schoech [14] or NCIBA Executive Director Calvin Crosby [15].
