Indies Present: A Universe of Wishes Wraps

Last month, the American Booksellers Association and We Need Diverse Books (WNDB) co-produced the reading series Indies Present: A Universe of Wishes with bestselling author and COO of WNDB, Dhonielle Clayton. The series featured Victoria Schwab, Tochi Onyebuchi, Samira Ahmed, and Zoraida Córdova. Each author discussed their story included in the WNDB anthology, A Universe of Wishes, and had a candid conversation around the fantasy genre and diversity. The series was moderated by Brein Lopez, General Manager of Children's Book World in Los Angeles, California. Booksellers are encouraged to share the reading series with their customers, school, and library contacts.

“This was one of the most brilliant virtual event series I have been able to see,” said Linda Sherman-Nurick of Cellar Door Bookstore in Riverside, California. “There are lots of events happening, but this one was pure quality.”

The series raised over $500 for We Need Diverse Books and supports increased diversity and representation in children's literature in independent bookstores.
