Toni Morrison famously said, “If there's a book that you want to read, but it hasn't been written yet, then you must write it.” Join authors Jennifer Egan, Kali Fajardo-Anstine, and Celeste Ng in conversation with author/bookseller Emma Straub for a discussion on how recent shifts in culture, isolation, and technology have affected what they want to read and what they want to write. Jennifer Egan is the author of The Candy House (on-sale 4/5/22) as well as six previous books of fiction: Manhattan Beach, winner of the Andrew Carnegie Medal for Excellence in Fiction; A Visit from the Goon Squad, which won the Pulitzer Prize and the National Book Critics Circle Award; The Keep; the story collection Emerald City; Look at Me, a National Book Award Finalist; and The Invisible Circus. Her work has appeared in The New Yorker, Harper's Magazine, Granta, McSweeney's, and The New York Times Magazine. Kali Fajardo-Anstine is the author of Sabrina & Corina, a finalist for the National Book Award, the PEN/Bingham Prize, The Story Prize, and winner of an American Book Award. She received the 2021 American Academy of Arts and Letters' Metcalf Award and is the winner of the Denver Mayor’s Award for Global Impact in the Arts and MPIBA's Reading the West Award. She is the 2022/2023 Endowed Chair in Creative Writing at Texas State University. Celeste Ng is the #1 New York Times bestselling author of Everything I Never Told You and Little Fires Everywhere. She is the recipient of fellowships from the National Endowment for the Arts and the Guggenheim Foundation, and her work has been published in over 30 languages.
