Contact Your US Senator in Support of the Common Cents Act This week, ABA, along with a number of small business organizations, sent a letter to the US House of Representatives urging them to pass the Common Cents Act, bipartisan legislation that would establish a clear, federal standard for cash rounding and providing a safe harbor from liability. The good news is the bill passed the House! The bill now heads to the Senate. Since the US Mint halted penny production over a year ago, Main Street businesses across the country have faced significant operational hurdles regarding cash transactions. Currently, more than 15 states have enacted their own, often conflicting, laws governing cash rounding, creating confusion and exposing businesses to potential legal challenges and financial losses. The bipartisan Common Cents Act (HR 3074) would undo this confusion by creating standard rules. Please urge your Senator to support the Common Cents Act today. |
