Save the Date: Banned Books Week 2027
Thank you again to everyone who participated in our Banned Books Week Display Contest and thank you for using your creative skills and eye for design to bring attention to such an important, year-round issue! As we face an unprecedented number of book bans, it is more important than ever to celebrate, showcase, and speak up for banned books.
Next year, Banned Books Week will be October 3–9, 2027.
Please keep an eye out for an upcoming survey sent by our Advocacy team regarding this year’s display toolkit so we can cater next year’s kit to help amplify your voices as much as possible.
Privacy Lawsuit VV Campaign
ABA is urging booksellers to reach out to their lawmakers in support of HR 10263, legislation that would put an end to abusive privacy lawsuits. The bill, introduced by Idaho Representative Russ Fulcher, was introduced in response to trial lawyers weaponizing decades-old wiretapping laws — originally intended to protect phone privacy — to sue small businesses over standard website tools like cookies, pixels, and chatbots.
These lawsuits are on the rise and unless legislation is passed to stop them, they could impact stores just like yours. Reach out to your lawmakers now.
Reminder about Fly-In
ABA, as part of the Merchants Payments Coalition, is participating in a crucial fly-in in support of swipe fee reform and needs booksellers in key states to attend.
If you are a bookseller in one of the following states, check your email inbox or email [email protected] for more information on the fly-in: Alaska; Colorado; Hawaii; Idaho; Iowa; Louisiana; Maine; Nevada; New York; South Dakota; Virginia; Washington; Wyoming; and South Carolina.
Travel and hotel expenses will be reimbursed after the fly-in (limited to one night only and one hotel room per store).
This might be the most important fly-in we’ve had on the swipe fee issue, so we hope that someone from your store can attend! |
