Bulk Upload of Images

This option is best suited for stores with a very large number of images to upload—25 or more.  For smaller numbers of images, it's easier to simply edit products one by one and upload the image that way.

Steps to bulk upload your images

  • Gather your images from your camera/the web/your vendor or distributor, etc.

    • Images must be JPEG (.jpg) or PNG (.png) format.
    • The image filename must be the same as the SKU of the product on your website.  For example, if the product SKU is “TSHIRT123”, the image should be named "TSHIRT123.jpg”.
    • Filenames are case-sensitive.
  • Compress your images into a single ZIP archive.

    • For best results, put all of the images in the same directory (no subdirectories).
    • For best results, do not include extraneous images, text documents, or other files in the ZIP file.
    • Please include your store name in the name of the ZIP file.  This will help IndieCommerce staff identify it correctly later on for processing.
  • Request that this feature be enabled for your site

    • Go to Store > Configuration > Account Information and Preferences > Store Features.
    • Ask to enable the "Bulk Image Import" feature.
    • IndieCommerce staff will contact your store with FTP credentials for uploading your ZIP file.
  • Uploading & Processing your images

    • Upload your ZIP file via FTP.
    • Notify [email protected] that your file is ready for processing.  Please include the filename.
    • IndieCommerce staff will process the file and follow up with your store.

Important to know

  • The filename and the SKU of your product must match exactly (not including the file extension).
  • Any existing images will be overwritten.
  • Very large images will be automatically resized to 1024x1024 pixels.
  • Once this feature is enabled for your store, you can upload multiple ZIP files.  For now, please notify [email protected] whenever you upload a file, so we know to process it for you.
  • If you already have FTP access for theme development and/or LSI, you still need new credentials for bulk image upload.
