ABA’s 21st annual Winter Institute Wi2026 (Wi2026) will be held in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, on February 23–26, 2026! 

Black, Indigenous, Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI), Latina/o/x, Chicana/o/x, Hispanic, and BIPOC booksellers are invited to kick off Wi2026 on February 22 with our pre-conference event, IGNITE!

Registration for Winter Institute 2026 (Wi2026) will open on Monday, September 15, at 1:00 pm ET/10:00 am PT.

Winter Institute sells out quickly! Mark your calendars and/or set an alarm so you can secure your spot when registration opens. 

If Wi2026 sells out before you get a chance to register, please join the waitlist. In the past, we have been able to get a significant portion of the waitlist registered for the event, and we will work to do so again this year.

Is this your first Winter Institute? Here are a few other dates to keep in mind:

• Registration for Wi2026 Bookstore Tours and Behind the Stacks: A Field Trip to the Book Country Clearing House Warehouse will open on Tuesday, October 21.
• Registration for the Wi2026 hotel block will open on Tuesday, October 28. (Registered attendees will receive a unique booking link via email.)

ABA is thrilled to announce the 64 booksellers who have been awarded scholarships to attend Winter Institute 2026 in Pittsburgh, PA!

These scholarships cover the Institute registration fee, hotel stay, and up to $600 in travel expenses for each winner.

CALIBA booksellers who are interested in attending Winter Institute 2026 are invited to apply for CALIBA's Glenn Goldman Scholarship!

The winning bookseller will receive $2,000 to go towards the cost of Wi2026 registration, the hotel stay, and travel expenses.

The deadline to apply is October 31.

It’s time to submit your nominations for the ABA Board!

The Board sets the Ends Policies for the association and oversees governance and compliance. 

Do you know a bookseller that would be a good fit? Nominate them (or yourself!) now!

The only eligibility requirements are:

1. Candidates for the Board of Directors must be booksellers or owners of an ABA regular, used, or online-only member store as defined in ABA Bylaws, Article II (2).
2. Board candidates must have at least three years of recent bookselling experience as a bookstore owner or employee.
3. Candidates should be committed to ABA’s mission and Ends Policies, and committed to working in a manner that demonstrates ABA’s commitment to antiracism, inclusion, representation, and diversity.

The deadline to nominate a bookseller for the ABA Board is Sunday, October 12.

Court Rules Trump Overstepped on Tariffs

The US Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit has ruled that the President cannot unilaterally impose tariffs under the International Emergency Economic Powers Act.
