How to Participate

1. Be an ABA Member

This event is for booksellers who belong to the American Booksellers Association and their regional independent booksellers association. Find regional contact information at the bottom of the membership page.

2. Sign Up

  • To purchase the exclusives and be included on the searchable map, sign ups are open October 21–November 15, 2024. You must purchase a minimum of 20 items (individually or bulk packaged — a bulk packaged item counts as one) in order to receive the freebies like bookmarks and stickers. Blackwing pencils and T-shirts do not count towards the 20-item minimum.
  • To only be included on the searchable map without any purchases, sign-ups are open October 21, 2024–March 31, 2025.

3. Celebrate on Independent Bookstore Day

Plan an in-store or online celebration for April 26, 2025. We’ve compiled lots of ideas below and from what bookstores have planned in past years.

About ABA

American Booksellers Association is a national trade association that supports and advocates for the success of independent bookstores. We provide members with education, networking opportunities, advocacy, resources, and technology. In turn our members support local schools through book fairs, donations and author visits; promote literacy; provide inclusive community centers; connect readers and books; add character to neighborhoods; champion and center diverse and new voices; and contribute to the local economy. We feel honored to support them in their work.
