Arkansas Act 372
We are still waiting for a court ruling on our rehearing request for Arkansas Act 372.
While the challenged parts of this law remain blocked pending this request, we also wanted to make sure our members were prepared. Should the court make a decision against a rehearing, the law could go into effect as quickly as seven days.
As a result, we have prepared a guidance document regarding Arkansas Act 372 to help you navigate potential operational risk and bolster preparedness. The document outlines legal details, practical "worst-case scenario" risk management strategies, and criteria for material to be considered "harmful to minors.”
Privacy Lawsuit VoterVoice Campaign
ABA is asking booksellers to reach out to their lawmakers in support of HR 10263, legislation that would put an end to abusive privacy lawsuits.
The bill, introduced by Idaho Representative Russ Fulcher, was introduced in response to trial lawyers weaponizing decades-old wiretapping laws — originally intended to protect phone privacy—to sue small businesses over standard website tools like cookies, pixels, and chatbots.
These lawsuits are on the rise and unless legislation is passed to stop them, they could impact stores just like yours. Please reach out to your lawmakers.
Reminder about Fly-In
We need you in DC! ABA, as part of the Merchants Payments Coalition, is participating in a crucial fly-in in support of swipe fee reform and needs booksellers in key states to attend
If you are a bookseller in one of the following states, check your email inbox or email [email protected] for more information on the fly-in: Alaska; Colorado; Hawaii; Idaho; Iowa; Louisiana; Maine; Nevada; New York; South Dakota; Virginia; Washington; Wyoming; and South Carolina.
Travel and hotel expenses will be reimbursed after the fly-in (limited to one night only and one hotel room per store).
This might be the most important fly-in we’ve had on the swipe fee issue, so we hope that someone from your store can attend.
