Indies Introduce Q&A with J.B. Hwang

“Mendell Station is both comforting and catastrophic, often at the same time. It’s about the monotonous slog forward through grief and about the unique trauma of being a frontline worker in the early days of the pandemic. Mendell Station is a revelation. Do not miss out on it,” said Katherine Nazzaro of Porter Square Books in Cambridge, Massachusetts.

Indies Introduce Q&A with Carrie R. Moore

“I mean it when I say this book is breathing life into me. Each story is a slow burning tale set in the South, braiding history, love, family, and self-discovery together with crisp prose and honest storytelling. It’s as if Moore has stamped cut outs of life and laid them on the pages for readers to experience an exact replica of reality,” said Nadi Hinojosa of Lark and Owl Booksellers in Georgetown, Texas.

125 Years of ABA: Q&A with Christine Onorati

This year marks ABA’s 125th year of helping indie bookstores thrive. As part of our 125th anniversary celebration, we’ll be sharing interviews with key figures in the industry and exploring how the organization has changed since its inception in 1900.

Christine Onorati is the owner of WORD Bookstores in Greenpoint, Brooklyn, and Jersey City, New Jersey. She served on the ABA Board of Directors from 2017 to 2023 and also served as the Board President from 2021 to 2023.

Onorati sat down with Bookselling This Week to discuss her time on the Board and her hopes for the future of bookselling.

Who We Are

American Booksellers Association is a national trade association that supports and advocates for the success of independent bookstores. We provide members with education, networking opportunities, advocacy, resources, and technology. In turn our members support local schools through book fairs, donations and author visits; promote literacy; provide inclusive community centers; connect readers and books; add character to neighborhoods; champion and center diverse and new voices; and contribute to the local economy. We feel honored to support them in their work.
