The full January/February Book Sense 76 with booksellers' quotes is now online at news.bookweb.org/read/2060, and it's an auspicious harbinger for the quality and scope of published titles in 2004. Fliers will be mailed to stores the first week of January.

Book Sense 76 Editor-in-chief Dan Cullen sends many thanks to all the booksellers nationwide who nominated titles for the list. Without the participation of the many booksellers who share their insights and passionate recommendations, the list would be far less robust, diverse, and intriguing. Though only one quote can be chosen to represent each title, the full 76 list is a dynamic collaboration.

Work continues on a number of lists, especially the new Reading Group Suggestions Book Sense 76. "We definitely understand that this is the busiest time of year for booksellers, but if they could take just a few moments to send in their stores reading group favorites we can ensure that this will be a strong list -- one that will be an effective selling tool in stores," said Cullen.

The procedure for compiling the list will be the same used for the first Reading Group list: Just send 10 to 15 of your favorite reading group favorites, especially those that might have been published in the past year. No need to rank them, or to send in a quote -- just e-mail the titles to Cullen at [email protected]. We'll take care of the rest.

Looking ahead, in spring 2004 are coming the Book Sense 76 Poetry Top Ten and the Book Sense 76 Top Ten History Picks.

  • The deadline for nominations for the Reading Group Suggestions 76 is December 15, and
  • The deadline for nominations for the Poetry and the History Top Tens is January 16.

All Book Sense nominations can be sent to Cullen at [email protected] or to the convenient Web nomination form at http://www.bookweb.org/read/6305.

Many thanks!
