Good Morning America and USA Today Announce Book Club Picks

On Wednesday, November 5, the USA Today Book Club announced that Balance of Power by Richard North Patterson (Ballantine) was its latest selection. President Kerry Kilcannon takes on the gun lobby and tort reform in Patterson's 12th novel.

On Thursday, November 6, Good Morning America announced that We Need to Talk About Kevin by Lionel Shriver (Counterpoint) was the latest book chosen by the show's "Read This!" book club. Shriver is the author of seven novels and has written extensively for The Wall Street Journal, The Philadelphia Inquirer, and The Economist.

Shriver's tome tells the story of a mother, Eva, whose son goes goes on a killing spree at his high school. Questioning her ability to raise her son, she wonders if she is to blame for his actions. Through a series of letters to her estranged husband, Eva recollects her pregnancy, the birth of her son, his upbringing, and the events leading up to that day.

GMA's "Read This!" segment features book clubs recommending titles of their choosing. This month, The Masters Book Club recommended the book directly to Good Morning America's viewers.
