The June 21 on-sale date of Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix is now less than two months away, and booksellers who want to make the most of this long-awaited event should take note of the approach of a deadline and two promotional opportunities.

Booksellers can double their store's publicity efforts surrounding the sale of Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix with a single e-mail. Send Bookselling This Week a description of your Potter promotional plans, and we'll include them in an upcoming article and forward them to Scholastic's publicity department. Scholastic's PR firm will contact the local media where stores are conducting events, and your event may be profiled in your local newspaper.

Send an e-mail describing your plans to the attention of BTW staff writer Karen Schechner at [email protected]; include "Potter Promotional Plans" in the Subject area. Remember to include store address, phone number, and contact name.

Make Some Magic with Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix and Book Sense
Customers purchasing Order of the Phoenix at participating Book Sense stores or at BookSense.com between 12:01 a.m. on June 21 and 11:59 p.m. on June 26 can win a family trip to Las Vegas with tickets to see the superb muggle magician Lance Burton as well as copies of books in the Harry Potter series. Booksellers are eligible for their own contest prize -- a $2,000 credit for Scholastic books (present or future).

A counter easel, bookmarks, and sweepstakes details will be sent to stores in the May white box mailing to stores with Book Sense. Stores that do not want to receive materials can opt out at www.bookweb.org/read/6078.

Register for Scholastic’s Retailer Coupon Program by April 30
Booksellers who would like to participate in Scholastic's Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix Retailer Coupon Program must sign-up by April 30. A registration form is available on the Scholastic Web site at http://www.scholastic.com/custsupport/booksellers/hpv/vendors.asp. Retailers without Internet access may contact their sales representative to sign up.

Under the program, students who pre-order Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix at a Scholastic Book Fair through the remaining school year, for the full retail price of $29.99, will receive a collectible baseball cap and an official certificate of purchase. Beginning June 21, the holder of the certificate may redeem it for a copy of Harry Potter at participating retailers

Participating bookstores will receive a $20 credit on their HarperCollins account for each book fair certificate redeemed. In addition, retailers will receive 10 units of a collectible Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix baseball cap, and their store name, address, and phone number will be posted on the Scholastic Web site at www.scholastic.com/bookfairs/harrypotter.
