Six Authors Shortlisted for 2017 Man Booker Prize

On Wednesday, September 13, the Man Group announced the six authors shortlisted for the 2017 Man Booker Prize for Fiction. This is the fourth year that the prize has been open to writers of any nationality. The titles were selected from books originally written in English and published in the U.K. between October 1, 2016, and September 30, 2017.

The 2017 shortlisted novels are:

• 4321 by Paul Auster (Faber & Faber)
• History of Wolves by Emily Fridlund (Weidenfeld & Nicolson)
• Exit West by Mohsin Hamid (Hamish Hamilton)
• Elmet by Fiona Mozley (JM Originals, John Murray)
• Lincoln in the Bardo by George Saunders (Bloomsbury)
• Autumn by Ali Smith (Hamish Hamilton)

Auster, Fridlund, and Saunders are all from the U.S., while Hamid, Mozley, and Smith are from the U.K. The shortlisted authors will each receive £2,500. The winner, who will be announced at a black-tie dinner in London on October 17, will receive a further £50,000. Last year’s winning author was Paul Beatty (U.S.) for The Sellout.
