USA Today Book Club Picks Jarhead

On Thursday, April 17, USA Today announced the selection of Jarhead: A Marine's Chronicle of the Gulf War and Other Battles by Anthony Swofford (Scribner) as its next book club title.

USA Today described Jarhead as "a morally questioning soldier's story from the 1991 Gulf War that gained resonance during the new war with Iraq."

Jarhead is a May/June 2003 Book Sense 76 pick. In nominating the title, Will Peters of Annie Bloom's Books in Portland, Oregon, said, "This book will get attention for its Gulf War combat scenes, but Swofford writes with honesty and courage to bring the bad news of war-making to readers with differing preconceptions."

Jarhead was number one on the March 27 Book Sense War and Peace Category Bestseller List and has been on the Book Sense Hardcover Nonfiction Bestseller List for the past seven weeks.

Swofford will answers readers' questions on April 24 and May 8 at noon ET/9:00 a.m. PT. Readers will be able to pose questions at http://talk.usatoday.com.
