One of the great vacation pleasures for book people is visiting as many of an area’s independent bookstores as possible. This was recently the case for ABA CEO Oren Teicher, who this month had the opportunity to visit with the owners and staff at several member stores in one of the farthest reaches of the country.

Earlier this month while on vacation in Alaska, ABA CEO Oren Teicher and his wife, Alison Greene, punctuated their exploration of the area’s natural beauty with stops at 10 ABA member stores in Alaska, Canada, and Washington State. “It was wonderful to have the opportunity to visit a number of stores and to meet with their owners and staff. We saw firsthand the strength of independent bookselling in the region, and Alison and I are grateful for the warm welcomes and hospitality,” said Teicher.

On the way home, the Teichers stopped at Bellingham, Washington’s Village Books, where they have been a number of times before, to visit with store co-owners Chuck and Dee Robinson.
